RE: Need a part for entry door

If your main door swings open 180 degrees and the plastic part holds it against the side of the coach, it is a common part. Most any good rv store will have one.

RE: Class A Pending Purchase

I forgot to add:
Be sure to read the Sticky: Class A Frequently Asked Questions Updated 11/02/2006 at the top of the class a forums
Be sure to understand the various weight ratings, so that you buy a motorhome that can carry your family, full fuel, and more than 1 toothbrush before it becomes overweight and dangerous.
Enjoy the selection process. It's a lot of fun.

RE: Class A Pending Purchase

You will get many replies. Would be helpful if you let us know how you will use the rv, and the budget you're working with.
I disagree with no slides. Yes you can get by without them, but with them you have so much more space. Resale is better also.
I'm one of many that started with a gas coach and soon had a diesel pusher. Don't ever drive the diesel pusher if you don't want to buy one.
Before you buy, drive every motorhome that you can. You'll find may variations in handling and ride.
Good luck...it's a wonderful adventure. Fred

RE: Headlight Assembly

WOW acetone huh? Apply the acetone on a clean wet or dry rag or just wipe afterward with the wet rag.
It really works. A used car lot trick. I used a clean dry cotton rag, and applied the acetone to the rag until it was wet but not dripping from the rag. Make a smooth wipe across the headlight lens, avoiding contact with painted surfaces, etc. The rag will look yellow. Wait for the lens to dry (dries very quickly). The acetone appears to melt away the damaged surface. If the the lens is not completely clear, use a clean spot on the rag (may need more acetone) and wipe again. I used this method on my Holiday Rambler headlights and they now look like new. A small can of acetone from Home Depot is cheap. I think it was about $4.00. Good luck....Fred

RE: SMI Toad Brake Controller

I'm another happy customer having an SMI Silent Partner Stay-in-Play model that uses radio communication between the coach and toad. It's been in two different motorhomes and two toads. Customer service and support (even after warranty) is excellent.....Fred

RE: Headlight Assembly

The haze will also just wipe off using a clean rag soaked in acetone. Use outdoors only, and keep using a clean spot on the clean wet rag until it is clear. Much less work than sanding/polishing/etc.

RE: Tank Vent - Your Roof Mounted Vent - Why it's there!!

I think all parties are correct, but are visualizing the device differently. The principle stated
" Daniel Bernoulli, an eighteenth-century Swiss scientist, discovered that as the velocity of a fluid increases, its pressure decreases.
Bernoulli's principle can be seen most easily through the use of a venturi tube.
A venturi tube is simply a tube which is narrower in the middle than it is at the ends."
If you read all of Bill's description, he does not have a narrow section in the middle of the tube. His device narrows only at the back 1/2 inch. Based on his description, I do not think a venturi exists in the device.
just my 2 cents worth.....Fred

RE: Gas Avilablility in GA

I've not experienced any problems finding fuel. We live just south of Savannah, GA. Hopefully, you'll get some additional replies from the metro Atlanta area.

RE: Sportscoach 405 fk

By using google search with the words "coachman 405 fk" you will find at least 3 dealers advertising the pathfinder 405fk. Maybe this will help. From the pictures, it looks like a nice DP.

RE: Installing a permanent surge guard

If you have enough space, the only difficult part is bending those big heavy wires. I suggest you consider installing the surge guard downstream of the transfer switch so you are protected from over / under voltage from the generator also. Obviously, this leaves the transfer switch unprotected. I think it is a good trade-off....Fred

RE: Tips for making it warmer while driving in winter

You probably have a lot of small air leaks at the front of the coach. On a dark night, put a bright light into the motorhome and look around under the front opening. Check where the wires, etc pass into the coach. Expanding foam can help a lot here.
Even properly sealed, the drivers feet area is often too cool and the typical dp dash heater does not put off much heat. In real cold weather, I've run the generator and a small electric heater near the driver (but then I don't like to be cold).

RE: Possible first DP---What should I not travel without?

Tools, replacement fuel filters, replacement belts. Even if you don't do the changing of the filters or belts, just having them with you can save a lot of time.

RE: Cruise control

I can't help with test procedures, but I have heard of a sticking or slightly out of adjustment brake light switch causing this problem. Also think I remember that a bad bulb in the brake light circuit can contribute to this problem. I hope you get some better suggestions.

RE: Keeping fingers crossed

We also have a 2000 HR Endeavor 38wds model. Except for the generator, we've had good service. I just listed the problems we've had on another post. If you wish to review it, the link is below.

RE: Holiday Rambler Endeavor - Any Probs?

We have a 2000 38 ft HR Endeavor, with the 330 hp cat engine on a Freightliner chassis. We've been very pleased with it. I'll list the problems we've had. Except for the generator (number 1 listed below), it has just needed what I consider routine maintenance for a motorhome.
1. quiet diesel generator - bad rotor..slung the magnets off..known problem for that era, but the genset manufacturer extended the warranty to the original owner ONLY. Cost $4000
2. Combined rain gutter/windshield gasket leaked. Repaired with caulk. As this rubber gasket begins to deteriorate, the rain gutter on the top of the gasket becomes a rain funnel to push water under the gasket. Check this if you buy the coach.
3. Seam tape on slide out top began to curl on edges, and allowed a small leak. Temporarily removed slide external seal, cut off old tape curled edges, and installed new eternabond tape. You can check for this with the slide retracted into the coach by standing in the drivers seat and looking at the top of the slide with a light.
4. Small water leak in bath area. Finally traced it to bad caulk on front cap. Caution...the front and back cap has the fiberglass roofing overlapping the top of the cap so it must be caulked well. It has eternabond tape over most of it, but the edges must be caulked regularly.
5. Small water leak in windshield cabinet area. Found that front clearance lights were only caulked on the top and sides, and not the bottom. Recaulked.
6. Plastic lens on headlamps became cloudy from sun exposure. Wiped down with acetone to make lens clear again. fyi...headlamps on mine are same as 99 Ford Explorer.
Good luck with your motorhome search.....Fred

RE: Average Speed on the Highway

Our toad should not be pulled faster than 65 mph, so normally I set the cruise control to 64. Overall, we average about 50 mph or slightly better because of stops, meal breaks, etc.

RE: Transferring Computer Programs

There is/was a program called AlohaBob PC Relocator, but IIRC it was absorbed by Microsoft with the intention of incorporating it into a Microsoft app. Nothing has happened yet but you can still by Alohabob from several locations. I've not used it so YMMV.
Yes, alohabob pc relocator will work. I used it about 2 years ago to migrate programs between laptops. I was going between xp operating systems. I have no idea if it will work between xp and vista.
I just tried to find their web site, and it no longer exists. I did find a document that said microsoft had purchased it, and they planned to incorporate it into vista as a download product sometime in the future.
If you find a store still selling AlohaBob PC Relocator, I don't think you will get much support if you have a problems. Good luck....Fred
